“Children and staff alike were blown away by how fun, engaging and inspiring Dan’s visit was. Dan quickly gained superstar status at the school and ended up signing books, reading journals, balls and pieces of paper for a seemingly never-ending queue of eager children. He had a great rapport with all age groups and pitched each session perfectly.”
Katie Davis, Library Resources Coordinator, Bude Junior School
“I think your strength lies in your ability to adapt to each year group. Previously when we’ve invited authors in they have only been able to work with certain year groups due to the age range of their books. I had really good feedback from all staff about how appropriate your pitch was. The nursery staff really liked that the children were able to be physical and the Year 5 and 6 staff felt you appealed to the older children’s more mature characters. I think that’s your USP – that you really can appeal to all year groups”
Clare Mee, The Royal School, Surrey
“Thank you so much for visiting our school on World Book Day. The children really enjoyed learning about the books that you have written and were especially excited to be the first school to be introduced to your new character, Lottie Lipton. I was impressed with how well the children listened to you reading from your books too; even the youngest children. I especially enjoyed watching the children’s faces when you were describing Maisie Mae dangling a snail above her face, preparing to eat it and the poor snail squirming! I know that many of the children are now very keen to read your books. Thank you once again for spending some time in our school.”
Sharron Goodwin, Landscore School, Crediton, Devon.
“Dan’s visit to our school was inspiring! The children were captivated by his dramatic readings from his books. They were swept away into a sci fi world following the adventures of the hero Jamie Jones. Dan skilfully brought alive his characters and inspired the children to want to read on to discover more. The class were also treated to a writer’s workshop based on a great story start provided by Dan. As a result the children wrote brilliant science fiction stories. The whole experience inspired our children to become authors. I would highly recommend a visit by Dan.”
Katie Coombe, Ilsham Academy, Torquay, Devon.
Dan was brilliant today! He was so inspiring and the boys got so much out of the session.
They were absolutely blown away I think! I just wanted to pass on the feedback because I think he was so charismatic and so on par with the children. He didn’t need to behaviour manage because they wanted to hear every word he said…can’t praise him enough.
Miss Allison, Bishopsteignton Primary School, Devon.
Dan, a children’s author, came into the Nursery to read… We listened to the story and imagined what we could grow. Ben, who is a keen gardener said he wants to grow a fish finger tree! Then we planted a magic seed in a pot which we can take home to water and wait to see what happens! Thank you Dan!
Jill Mercer, Early Birds Pre-School, Crediton, Devon.
Year 4 and 5 were lucky enough to be visited by Dan Metcalf, the author of the Lottie Lipton series on Thursday. The children got to hear all about Dan’s work as a writer and he gave a dramatic read-ing of the first chapter of one of his books! The children were then set the task of working together to create the rest of the story. The buzz in the room was obvious. A fantastic, inspiring workshop that was enjoyed by all. Dan was very impressed with their ideas and the children were keen to finish their stories in their free writing books too.
St Margarets Academy, Torquay.
Barton Hill Academy benefited from Dan’s reading and writing day. Stories were shared and enjoyed. They learnt how it felt to be a writer, learning from one of the best. It also gave them aspirations as Dan was an old pupil of the school. The children purchased many books of Dans and talk fondly of him visiting our school. I can highly recommend him to you.
Jane Young, Headteacher, Barton Hill Academy, Torquay.
Thank you for your time and being so great with the children. I know my Nursery class were transfixed and it was wonderful to see even our youngest children and EAL joining in with the story! A fantastic opportunity for children to become immersed in stories and we are looking forward to our budding authors sharing their ‘Climb a Tree’ stories at home and school! Thank you for the inspiration and support with our beautiful work project too!
